What does ethical and effective use of children's information look like in practice? Learning from the Children’s Information Project
Mary Ward House 5 - 7 Tavistock Place London WC1H 9SN
09:30 - 16:00 Wednesday, 23 September 2026
For the last five years, the Children’s Information Project (CIP) has undertaken research into local authorities’ use of information about children, young people and families (generically referred to as ‘children’s information’).
The project team has developed a definition of ethical and effective information use in the context of children’s information and a framework setting out component approaches, practices and system enablers. These have been developed together with, and informed by, partner local authorities and a wider learning network.
This conference marks the conclusion of the project. It aims to bring together strategic, operational and performance and data leads from across Children's Services to share what we have learned and demonstrate how the framework can be used in practice.
During the conference, we will:
- Share learning from research and practice development.
- Demonstrate how the CIP framework can be used to integrate data and lived experience and voice.
- Introduce the CIP website and practical tools designed to support and enable change in local authorities.
Funded by the Nuffield Foundation, the project team comprises of researchers from the universities of Oxford and Sussex, the London School of Economics, specialist advisors from University College London and Manchester Metropolitan University, four local authorities and Research in Practice.
