Adult social care is grounded in human rights, and its legislation and policy are governed by human rights law (Harms-Smith et al, 2019). This resource focuses on the activity of assessing adults and carers who may have care or support needs. As with all adult social care activity, this is a human rights activity and a human rights approach is essential. It provides an overview of legislation and policy backdrop and brings together evidence of different approaches to upholding human rights in assessment, including a specific case study relating to COVID-19.
